Georgia
Schohl has been teaching piano full time in the San Ramon area since
1983. Originally from Michigan, she has studied piano, music theory,
ethnomusicology, and composition at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music
and earned the B.M. degree. She studied piano with Florence Robertson in
Michigan and Adelaide Banaszynski in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Besides piano
music, composing music and the study of music from all world cultures
are other interests.
As a child, Georgia participated in many piano
recitals and received various awards. Since her childhood, she decided
to become a piano teacher to help others learn to play. While in
college, she received several commissions by the United Ministry for
Higher Education at the University of Wisconsin to compose two choral
pieces. Also during her last year at the conservatory, she composed
music for WNET for a film on the energy crisis.
After receiving the Bachelor of Music degree,
Georgia moved to California and attended Mills College, where she
studied piano and music composition. She received the Master of Arts
degree in 1980. She also studied electronic music and counterpoint at UC
Berkeley. Since that time she started teaching piano in Berkeley,
Concord, Danville and San Ramon where how she is a full time teacher.
Georgia Schohl is also a member of the California
Music Teachers Association and participates in the Certificate of Merit
program for students who want to participate in this course of study.
When a student decides to study piano, Georgia
wants to set goals for each student with the parent's help. One of the
most important goals is to learn to read a play music proficiently with
the correct rhythm. Learning to play with true emotion and feeling is a
sign of true musicianship -- and that is very important. As they mature,
students often like to play different styles of music, such as
classical, jazz, ragtime, contemporary, and New Age -- and that is the
real goal, to find each student's niche or favorite style that they
enjoy to play.
